Crowle.
Thomas Walkwood, 1692, surrendered five acres and 20 perches of land, lying in Ealand and Crowle field, with a messuage wherein he dwelt, with orchards, stables and building in Crowle North End to the minister and church wardens for the use of the poor for ever. Also 2 acres, 1 rood and 20 perches in Crowle field, the yearly rent for the teaching and well educating certain poor children of the parish for ever.
Richard Brewer, of Gainsborough, 1687, left a messuage and farm house in Crowle, with arable land, meadow and pasture. Town End farm, the rents to be used for the learning of 20 poor children to read English and buy books for their use. The acreage was ten but common rights extensive.
Another bequest by Richard Clark in 1721. At foundation the scholars were 32. The master was paid £32 plus an allowance for coals. Later scholars were increased to 50, masters’s salary also £50. Later the schoolroom fell down and the church vestry was used. Mr. Thomas Hodgson was the school master.
The commons rights at the time of enclosure were extensive. The land and common rights were exchanged at enclosure for 21 acres, 3 roods and 10 perches of tithe free land and £206. The latter was spent in building a new school house. The estate was let for £88. Eventually the charities were appropriated by the Charity Commissioners to the National Schools.

One half part of the two closes and two Cottage Houses in Gainsburgh [near N forth holme] which I purchased of one William Walker upon this special trust and confidence that they will out of the rents and profits thereof cloathe so many ancient poor people in the said town of Gainsburgh as it will extend to every year upon every 11th day of November as my free gift for ever And if it will not extend to give them 5 clear rent and raise 5 for the use of the said poor I order my executors to make it out
Under this will 5 was for many years paid by the proprietor of the lands under the notion that that was the limitation Some years since however a claim was made by the parish for a moiety of the two closes and cottages instead of the sum previously paid which being refused a suit in Chancery was instituted but was not determined until 1 827 in favour of the parish The following is the decree of the Master of the Rolls
