MCXCVI. (1196)
Charter of Geoffrey de la Wyrche.

Know to my friends and to all men that I, Geoffrey de la Wyrche, for the health of the King and Queen and their children, and for the health of my soul, my wife’s soul, and the souls of my friends, have granted, with the assent of the King, to Benedict, Abbot of St Germain of Selby, and to the brethren dwelling there, Crowle, that is, the hundred of land with all soke and sac as it lies in the county of Lincoln, without any reservation, free and quit of all customs and services which pertain to me, in perpetuity; on condition that for us one monk shall always be maintained in the church, and one poor man shall be fed.

I made this confirmation at London, in the solar of Waleran’s house, before Odo, Bishop of Bayeux, etc.
