Crowle Charter 1197

From the Selby Abbey Coucher Book – https://archive.org/details/ldpd_11897731_000

Know to all men, both Franks and English, that I, Nigel of Albiney, have relinquished to the Church of Saint Germain of Selby and to the monks there serving God the claims which I had over the land of Saint Germain, namely over Crowle, and the wood of that vill, which the vill had been sold by Geoffrey de la Wyrca, my fourth predecessor, in the same tenure to Benedict, first Abbot of the Church of Saint Germain of Selby.

And know that I have granted to the same monks that they shall have their wapentake and their warren, and all things which adjoin to that vill, with soca and saca and tol and team and infangthef. And if my men have had any complaint against the men of the Abbot, as is customary, let them come to be received.

And because of this I, Nigel, have become fully a brother of the Church of Saint Germain, and the Abbot shall always send one monk to the same church, and shall feed one poor man in alms for me and for my wife, and for Geoffrey and for all our predecessors, and for all the benefactors of the same church.

Witnesses of this matter are R., Abbot of the Church of Saint Alban, etc.
