Trent Aegir – Sunday 19th May 2019 – Morning
The prospects for a good Aegir were very poor – I had only predicted it as 2*. Not visible below Ewsters but quite good from Kelfield.
06:07 The Aegir was only visible as a nearly imperceptible ripple at the M180 bridge.
06:16 Nothing to be seen Just South of West Butterwick – only a change in river flow.
06:35 – Trent Aegir – Kelfield Drain Pumping Station. The Aegir was quite visible and could be heard well before it emerged from the early morning mist.
06:41 – Trent Aegir – Owston ferry Pumping Station – bowling along quite strongly.
06:45 – Trent Aegir – Just south of Owston Ferry. Appearance much reduced.
06:54 – Trent Aegir – Just south of Gunthorpe. The Aegir bowling along strongly and looking good.
07:02 – Trent Aegir – Stockwith Turn
07:23 – Trent Aegir – Gainsborough – Still bowling along quite strongly.
Went to Gainsborough this morning, 17th June for predicted time of 9.00am. I thought I would be in with the a good chance as the river level is low to normal at the moment and there is a good full moon. The water had duly changed direction and there was a slight ripple on the water but not a true aegir wave.
Perhaps the lack of dredging of the river has lead to less spectacular occurrences . MMy best ever was on a June evening about 62 years ago whhen it was at least a foot high going through Gainsborough.
Hi, thanks for your update. I see that it was only forecast to be a one-star aegir this month. Unfortunately none of the predictions this year are for really good aegirs.Lets see what next year brings us.
Beautiful calm images. What a perfect day! How did you manage to round up so many people, prepared to get up so early, to film? Thanks to them and you. Reminds me that spring is just around the corner, that nature has beauties as well as viruses, and that it may soon, in a few weeks, be possible to get out and enjoy it.
Haha! – it was just me. The aegir travels at about 15 miles an hour so it is quite easy to follow it up the river. Thanks for your comments.
